At 4:01pm Air Florida Flight 90 struck the 14th Street Bridge over the Potomac River in Washington D.C. Within minutes over 70 people would perish in the icy cold waters, just yards away from help on snow covered banks of the city's emergency services.
The year 1977 saw the world's worst airline disaster, claiming 582 souls. The chain of events on that day in March 27th were set in motion early on.
