Best Cordless Vacuums for Hardwood Floors 2013

By Edited Sep 16, 2015 0 0

What are the Top Rated Battery Vacuums for Hardwood Floors?

Are you interested in getting yourself a cordless vacuum cleaner that will make cleaning your hardwood floors a whole lot easier -- however are unsure as to which model is best up for the job (& offers the most bang for your buck)? If so, don't fear... I was in the exact same position as you -- & so through sharing a bit of my research with you -- it will hopefully save you a fair bit of time (from having to carry out the same job of comparing and contrasting differing vacuums), and will allow you to quickly get hold of the best model for your cleaning needs & preferences.

With the research I ultimately narrowed down my options further & further and came across three potential cordless vacuums models to choose from (as well as a sort of bonus hard-floor vacuum combination cleaner device), which I have singled out & regarded as being  pretty much the best the 'cordless vacuum' market had to offer (for specifically cleaning my hardwood flooring) and they are as follows:

i) The Dyson Digital Slim Mark II (DC44)

This cordless cleaning vacuum from Dyson is quite simply... awesome (and as a refurbished model offers great value for money)! The DC44 offers the unique Dyson integrated Root Cyclone technology which allows it three distinct benefits over that of other standard cordless vacuum cleaners: i) it is bagless, ii) it doesn't suffer with loss of suction and iii) generates incredibly high centrifugal forces which it in turn transforms (in tandem with the ultra efficient Dyson Digital Motor V2) into a huge suction force -- up to 65 AW of constant suction power (which is about 2/3rds as powerful as a corded vacuum).

Also, its advanced cleaner head has been specifically designed for action on all floor types (although what many owners/users recommend is that you also get the highly regarded 'Articulating Hard Floor Tool' in particular if you have plans for a lot of cleaning with hard floors). This was the model I originally was going to go for -- a really great featherweight (2.25 kg) cleaning machine that will make vacuuming hard-floors hella lot easier. Make sure you definitely check it out.

Update: If you like the look of this model -- you may want to hold off until its upgrade is released -- the Dyson Digital Slim Mark III (DC59) -- which offers more than 1.5 times as much power as that of the DC44.

ii) The Hoover Cordless Linx

Next is a rather classic & hugely popular cordless model produced by the vacuum industry leader, Hoover: -- the Platinum Linx. Not as powerful as the DC44 (due to being only incorporated with a 18 volt lithium ion battery etc.) but it still does offer a pretty decent suction power (more than sufficient to do a good job on a hard wooden floor) -- due to its "cutting edge" WindTunnel technology. The main appeal about the Linx is its practical specifications such as being fitted with a huge 1 litre (bagless) bin capacity, a low profile base to allow you to get under furniture easily as well as being easy to manoeuvre on all floor types -- due to it weighing in at only just over 3 kg.

Furthermore, it comes with a brush roll on & off switch -- meaning that you can get a more optimised clean for wood based floors. It also has specialised edge cleaning bristles fitted -- hence you get a complete clean right up against wall edges & skirting. In all, if you are really unsure as to which cordless model to get for cleaning your hard floors -- over 2000 positive reviews for the Hoover Linx can't be wrong with regards to this being a great cordless vacuum to have.

iii) The Electrolux Ergorapido Ion

For anyone who has 'manoeuverability & control' as a priority on their list for buying their new cordless vacuum cleaner -- then they should really take a look at the Ergorapido Ion, which is pretty much the best of the bunch in terms of mobility on hardwood flooring (along with it featuring an ergonomically designed grip fitted & being ultra lightweight - 2.3 kg). This was actually my second choice to the DC44 and was a weigh up between these two models (see my comparison of the features & details face-off: Ergorapido Ion Vs Dyson DC44) -- as it offers very decent features for such a low price -- for instance, its battery allows it to run for a huge 30 minutes with a constant suction performance (from just a 'quick charge' of approximately 3.5 hours to go from dead to full ) -- with an LED indicator stating the condition of the battery.

Moreover, it also (like the DC44) in the sense it is a 2 in 1 vacuum, so it can separate to become a handheld as well (particularly useful for cleaning out the car & stair way) -- another great feature I liked is the (rather unusual) LED headlights allowing you to clearly see the dust particles on your flooring (and an idea as to where you have been cleaning & where is left to clean, or needs another 'run over)'. Also, it has many little practical features like the 180 degree cleaner head & like the Linx has a 'switching' brush roll for an optimal clean on hard floors.

Bonus Option:  iv) The Dyson Hard (DC56)

Dyson Hard DC56

This cordless 'combination' cleaning machine is rather unique -- and has the potential to make cleaning your wooden floors even easier (than buying just a cordless vacuum). It is somewhat based on the DC44 model in terms of looks and functionality i.e it is still a vacuum that features the Root Cyclone technology, 22.2 volt lithium ion battery, can turn into a handheld vacuum etc. however it is only intended for cleaning hard floors.

The way it works is by reducing two rather strenuous jobs (i. vacuuming the dust & debris from your wood floors and ii. going on to mop & dry mop the floor to remove stains & grime) into just one simple job (i. clean with the cordless DC56) -- whereby its dual channel cleaner head  picks up the dust & debris through its suction channels and then goes on to wipe away the grime through a special Dyson designed wood floor wipe. A pretty clever design.
