Best Things to Sell on Ebay
A big part of making money with e-commerce is knowing the best things to sell on ebay. In the past, starting a profitable ebay business was not a difficult endeavor. A person could do a quick google search for wholesalers that work with ebay sellers, sign up for a membership and be making money in a week or so. This was before the days when Ebay listing fees made market research essential.
The fact of the matter is that a big part of making money with ebay (or an ebay alternative) is batting for average. What I mean by this is that you have to actually convert a significant portion of your auctions to sales in order to maintain any sort of profit margin. Some ebay sellers have revolted against these fees and went looking for ebay alternatives on which to sell their wares. In some ways the defection of so many subpar sellers has made it a bit easier for determined Ebayers to make money. But, like I said, it still isn't easy. And making sure that you know your items will sell before you pay your listing fees is a considerable piece of the puzzle.
Can a person still make money with Ebay auctions?
I don't want to paint too dire a picture here. Like I said, Ebay has become a more challenging environment to make money. That is the bad news. The good news is that there are still millions (that is not a misprint, literally millions) of people who make a full time income selling items on Ebay. The system is not broken, it just requires a little more savvy in order to truly profit from it.
So, to answer this question in a single word: YES! You can still make money selling items on the Ebay marketplace and I mean a lot of money. Though the estimates vary, it is believed that thousands of people in the United States alone will make more than $1 million as Ebay power sellers. Obviously, these Ebay millionaires are not listening when people say that the Ebay system is broken.
Knowing the best things to sell on Ebay is the ticket to success
In order to make a significant income from Ebay you will have to provide products that fulfill one of two criteria. You must be able to provide the item at a price that is lower than what the buyer can purchase it for at their local retailer. Or you have to provide a product that they can not reliably find at their local retailer. As I believe that beating the market on price points has become quite difficult, I focus on selling things on Ebay that my buyers have a hard time locating in their local area.
In fact, I have boiled down the entire process of picking items to sell at auction to one question: Can a guy in Peoria buy this item at the Peoria Walmart? With this single question I can establish whether an item is a good thing for an ebay auction.
This question gets at the heart of the qualities of uniqueness that successful Ebay items possess. In order to understand why this is the case, you have to think a little bit from the perspective of the buyer. If the buyer can buy an item for $100 at the local Walmart, are they going to buy the same item from you for $100 (or even $95) and wait a few days for it to arrive in the mail? You see, for the best things to sell on ebay your buyer doesn't mind waiting because they couldn't get the item at the local retailer in the first place.
There are a huge variety of items that fulfill this criterion that you can choose from. For instance antiques, collectibles and regional items make fantastic items to sell on Ebay because they are in demand throughout the world, but can only be purchased at certain locations or from certain individuals. For instance, let's say that you live in Philadelphia and there you can purchase parchment copies of early American documents such as the Declaration of Independence. You can buy these items at the local tourist shop (or more accurately you can work with the same wholesale supplier as the tourist shop) and resell them at a profit to people all around the world on Ebay because various local retailers do not carry them.
You see, this goes back to the Peoria question. By selling unique or regional items you minimize the impact that your price points will have on the success of your auctions while still appealing to a wide audience. That's why I believe that these products make the best things to sell on Ebay.
Now, this may seem like quite a bit to take in if you are new to the Ebay game. I can assure you that there are a few things that you will have to learn in order to be a successful Ebay seller. However, the good news is that the information that you will need to make money can be found online if you are willing to look for it. There are now countless websites devoted to sharing strategies about selling stuff on Ebay and nearly all of them share this information free of charge. So, I would encourage anyone that wants to start an Ebay business to begin the process of educating themselves and, more importantly, begin the process of selling items on Ebay. In order to succeed, you are going to have to make some mistakes along the way, the best advice is to get through those mistakes as quickly as possible.
I hope that you join the ranks of Ebay millionaires in the next twelve months!
