The Role Of Ocean Circulation In Global Climate Change

The oceans are a major contributor in dictating the nature of Earth's climate and, using advanced coupled climate system models; recognised ocean circulation systems have been found to have been very influential on global climate due to their ability to transport and store massive amounts of heat. Reconstructions of past interactions have led to the presumption that during cold stadial periods high-latitude ocean circulation was pivotal in driving both regional and global climate, whilst in the warm interstadial conditions tropical ocean circulation tends to be more influential in altering climatic conditions. Although past deviations from this pattern mean it is not necessarily a rule.
