Editing or updating material will KILL you!!
I don't know what the frack is going on but I've lost significant standing on two articles back to back by doing nothing more than replacing a dead Amazon link in one and a dead video link in another. One was on Máiréad Nesbitt, and I lost 11 points on her by fixing her title (which had magically disappeared for some unknown reason) and by replacing a dead Amazon link.
The Buck Owens thing I did had a bum vid link--he was sitting at a 91 score. I put in a new vid link and magically he's now sitting at 80! I lost 11 points on him.
And this ain't ego talkin'--I'd challenge anyone to do better on that subject. Buck is worth being scored at a 91 (he grew into it, starting life at 75, I think). He doesn't deserve a low-ranking 80.
I will not TOUCH any more of my material, especially those things I have currently in the Top 100, I don't care if there are punctuation/grammar errors, dead vid or Amazon links, what have you. Better they should be flawed, and rank, than sink like a stone with corrections. I would advise others to do the same: leave your existing stuff alone!!
admin, what is happening here (and it's not just me with this issue)?
This is a serious issue. New articles are getting much lower scores than what I am used to buy about 10 points as well. I can live with a 48 score, but I don't like it. For others who might be normally in the 50-51 range, losing 10 points could be terrible.
I was surprised that the other thread on this subject hadn't been touched for 3 days since it is such a serious issue. I knew I wasn't the only one being affected by it, yet no one has mentioned it since Saturday.
I've pointed it out to Kevin and Ryan. They asked for links to articles that were dropping in score.
I tested another article this morning. I opened it, then republished and it dropped 11 points.
I speculate that one of the many updates they are pushing through in preparation for 4.0 has broken the scoring system.
I'm not posting anything new or editing anything else until it is fixed.
I'm going to work on new material (because they usually start out in the low 70s for me anyway), but I won't touch any of the older stuff if they're going to take that kind of beating. And the 11 points seems to be the standard drop.
I also think it has to do with the upgrade, but dammit, it's annoying.
Something is up with the scoring algorithm. I'm looking into it now.
I'm new in InfoBarrel and just a couple of hours ago, I sent my first article for review.
When I was done with my article and I tried to preview, only my image and article title came out. My content was gone in Preview but available in the CMS.
Thinking that it's a current minor bug in Preview I submitted my article.
Just now, I received an email saying my article was denied because I had less than 325 words. Thing is, my article has 1000+ words. * facepalm *
I think whatever update is happening is also affecting the CMS.
Hope this would be solved soon. I really want to join InfoBarrel to gain experience in article writing.
Take a look at the Newbie Guide. Scroll down to the section Not enough words, but I wrote over 400 words:
Is that your problem?
Thanks Kevin, I've only noticed this on my most recently published article.
I've been losing 2 or 3 points when I updated lately ... but not 11. I think I will stop updating articles for a couple of days until this issue is fixed. Thanks for letting us know what's going on. I thought it was just me.
No, there have been others experiencing the same thing. A point or two? I wouldn't care--but ELEVEN?? Yoiks!!
OK, the bug has been located, squashed and flushed. Everything should be back to normal now when you make an edit.
Thanks for everyones help tracking this thing down.
Only an article's author can see the number, but if it's below 41, Google is told not to index it, and if it's high enough, you could get in the Top 100 articles.
I am not a good writer but normally articles of more than 1300 words would have more than low 50 scores I would think. One has 7 pictures and interlinked with my other articles and still only 55. the other new article is 53 and has couple of pics 1400 words and amazon links. So wonder why too.
i have write some articles but i cant find them in my acount ... i think they did not publish my articles why ?
I confirm that editing your articles no longer causes the 11 point penalty.
Check in "drafts" and "denied" articles.
Whew! Now I can go back to updating my InfoBarrel articles. Thanks!
Glad it's fixed, at least I can edit without fear. OK, now, Buck Owens wants his 11 points back!!
Ok, Buck is back!
From beyond the grave, Buck thanks you, thus saving you guys a severe haunting! Thanks.
