I pronounce the InfoBarrel forum DEAD
Thanks, Vic. This is an unconscionable betrayal of trust.
I betrayed your trust?
Of course not! I trust you implicitly and I don't think you would ever do such a thing.
It is working again!!!! Happy moment :-)
This forum isn't removed from public view, it can be viewed when logged out, there is a link to the forum at the bottom of every page, and a google search for "I pronounce the InfoBarrel forum dead" brings up this very thread as the first result in google.
Haven't looked at what has happened to the Alex rank in the past 12 months then?
From about 30,000 to 122,394.
I have sites in the top 100,000 which don't pull in much money.
During that period you've also got a huge rise in the prevalance of adblock users, and a continued increase in the proportion of mobile traffic (which generates much less money than desktop traffic).
They could have dropped revenue share from 95% to 40% and I doubt they'd be making more money today than they were a year ago.
Go and browse the monthly adsense threads on WebmasterWorld, got some serious big hitters posting on there, people who generate $30,000 a month on adsense etc. It paints a grim picture of what is happening to the ad economy, not many people reporting year on year revenue growth.
Its a fast changing game. Browse Flippa and the highest earning adsense sites actually just purchase traffic from cheaper networks (this is allowed), its called arbitrage, they buy millions of hits from Taboola and profit from the traffic when it hits their sites (makes perfect sense really, as you know you are paying for a visitor who doesn't have adblock installed, and who isn't ad blind - as they've literally just clicked your ad).
I am up to $44 in my daughters site so thought I might just make payout. BUT........Have to dream for her for that to happen Eileen
Hi everyone! Popping back in again after being away for about a year, and being away a few years before that. Wow...things have changed around here. I just spent a couple of hours browsing the forums and checking out the changes to the site.
I noticed that the admins 'responded' in another forum post stating the site isn't dead as Phil suggested (hey Phil!). Does anyone here feel any differently since the admins' last post?
I plan on editing/updating some of my articles without spending too much work on it, given the valid complaints I'm seeing here. I already have my articles saved offline so I'm not terribly concerned about losing content. I sure wish we could delete our own articles though! Some of my stuff is pretty cringeworthy and the sooner they're removed, the better.
Anyway, good to see the familiar faces and names again and I plan on hanging out in the forums until...well, I guess until something happens!
Editing your old articles could be a problem as many of them aren't accessible any more. And yes, you do still have to contact admin to remove articles, but they don't check in very often any more.
I saw that in the forums about the problems with editing old articles, but I edited a couple of mine today and it seemed to work fine.
I have contacted the admins about removing old articles but that was just a couple of hours ago. I won't start yelling at them just yet.
I also posted in the other thread where the admins announced the IB 4 rollout with some requests. We'll see if they respond!

Dadbintheadmin, what are the publishing dates of the articles you edited? I still cannot edit mine.
Two were from July 13, 2010, and 1 from December 23, 2010. Still no response on deleting my articles though.
Hi Gang, What is going on with IB? I've been away for several months and I thought I'd return to writing again -- however, I can't access my own articles and I don't see anything current on the contests. What is going on here? Is IB dead? This would make the third platform to die on me in the past ten years. I feel like this is the "Twilight Zone" meets "Groundhog Day." :-)
Dying from admin neglect ..................
Well, I wrote an article a week ago since numerous whale conservation groups wanted my theory in a written form with citations. And, it worked. I wrote it in a couple of hours.
Prior to that, about five months ago, I was writing more frequently about our Zika crisis. I'm working on a documentary so I haven't been here much, but I intend to come back "full force" when I can.
What I sense has happened is that the guys are involved in so many projects that they had to just leave InfoBarrel to "run itself" so to speak. I guess the contests are no longer.
I hope others can write on here and that things pick up. I still highly respect that this platform is reference-based (unlike mainstream media). And, I adore many of the writers on here.
Take care everyone.
Sites cannot run by themselves. They need to be monitored to make sure they are still functioning. I have contacted the admins about a new glitch-I cannot edit my articles. Hopefully that will be corrected soon.
Good for you, Rose, with your documentary and your work with conservation groups. I wish you the best with these!
Replying to my own post for convenience.... It's been three days since I emailed them about removing all my articles and closing the account. No response yet.... Probably ignoring me. The only money I've earned here in three years was contest money. I thought about Hubpages but all the negative feedback isn't encouraging. Seems like there is NO viable content writing/revenue sharing site. Bummer.
Try PMing the admins on Facebook.
I see the ability to edit and to append Amazon mods is back!
