IB is NOT dead, it was just very bugged out

Hi guys,

I know there's been some talk that the site is closing, but we haven't said that to anyone, nor is it actually closing.  There were some major bugs that we had to squash to get writing (and the other broken pages) back working again.

So you know, we have zero intention of closing the site.  With that said, I'll tell you that we aren't able to put the time into it that we have before (I'm sure you've noticed).  We will keep operating the site as it is (and I'll try to keep the spam out of the forum and comments).

Thanks,
Kevin

Some of us were wondering if payouts are functioning. I reached my minimum balance February 28th and my Paypal infomation is up to date.

I seem to have my draft articles back, which is great, but I'll say what I said a while back - Just talk to us now and again guys to let us know what is happening!!!

Thank you, Kevin, for coming onto the forum and letting us know that you and Ryan have not abandoned InfoBarrel.  You have given us hope once again!  I've been here 7 years, as of this month, and hope the site continues to exist and, hopefully, improves with time.

Thanks!

Debbie

I know you guys are busy, but there was the suggestion in one of those many threads suggesting you guys get an intern to handle some of the grunt work like taking care of spam, maybe updating earnings if it isn't too terribly complex. Maybe you should consider it to save time, focus on exterminating bugs as well as other projects? Certainly there is some university student in Vancouver that could use an internship.

Like magic. Suddenly >poof < it's there!

What finally prompted the response?

There are still bugs:

Still can't go back and edit "live" articles

Can't delete "draft" articles - the garbage can icon still not working

Me too. I clicked the edit icon on 5 live and 1 draft and still get :

Fatal error: Class 'SoapClient' not found in /var/home/infobarrel.com/m/includes/Amazon/lib/AmazonECS.class.php on line 231

Not as much time and no time are two different matters. And nothing about fixing problems with earnings reports (I did receive my outstanding balance, but it's not remotely accurate).

Also, with the earnings update I see I made 15 cents last month. Of course, that's with having only 2 articles live now, but at least there's some financial activity being updated.

Yes, we have noticed.

Bugs that have been reported earlier are still not fixed and I, too, cannot edit any existing article. The site for all intensive purposes is closed if you cannot add, delete dead links or edit an article in any sort of way.

Let me put this in terms you might understand.

How would you feel if someone took away your capability to support your family?

While IB is in no way my only means of earning a living online or in the real world, it is part of a portfolio of work that I have. My other articles have links back to these articles, which may or may not need updating. This makes my own sites look bad, since I may be linking to outdated material (I like to change Amazon modules and products as I find new ones that are a better fit and are actually available to purchase, all while tweaking older articles with new pinnable images and a new paragraph or two.)

My inability to edit and update my articles took income from my wallet, which means my children had less. Wouldn't you be a bit upset at that fact?  And I still do not like the fact that I cannot just remove my own articles when I want to. I waited two months for the latest batch to be removed.

Before the bugs took over, I still made regular sales on Amazon from my links here. I know that there is still earning potential on this site for writers.  However, I cannot jump up and down with joy that after two months we finally heard from one of you about what is going on, especially since the most important bugs still exist. I cannot edit my articles!

I was the one who suggested hiring an unpaid intern. My older daughter has many friends who have worked five days a week over the summer at big corporations, all unpaid, just to have that bullet point on their resume. During the school year, these same students work a few days a week at unpaid internships for college credit and experience. Certainly you can do the same. This intern can monitor the forums, check messages, and most importantly, address site bugs that prevent all of us from earning income here. It might take someone a few hours to train the intern and one person needs to be responsible for him or her, but the income potential for all of us makes it worth the time spent.

While we all can understand the need to work on new sites and expand your own portfolios in order to earn a living for your own families, it is not business savvy to keep a site open and have it as unworkable as it is now. This is the root from where it all began. It still needs tending to, either by one of you or by someone else on your team.

Thank you, Mommy x 3 for an excellent summary of the situation and how a lot of us probably feel about it.

I'm an optimist in most areas - I sold all my articles here and the only reason I hang around is that I met so many great people here.

I live in hope that IB will be fixed and earn people money again. I used to recommend the site to any writers I knew, I would like to be able to do so again.

However, it will need someone from the admin team to check the forum at least once a day and to answer questions/address issues.

I agree with you, Phil. I don't plan on recommending IB to any writer friends at the moment. I have noticed that there don't seem to have been any new articles posted in the last while by any of the people I am following. If writers have lost so much faith in the site that they are no longer posting, this definitely does not bode well.

I will probably post again, but won't be putting any major effort into writing here until I see a major improvement.

Well, I'm glad the place isn't in the death throes. I did, however, get panicky and copy pasta some pages to one of my blogger blogs.

I'm almost certain this is a violation of rules, but the thought of losing my content was very very unappealing. The ones I doubled elsewhere could be removed from here and I'd not have any sort of issue with that.

I've never been a 5 star member here, but I've always very much liked to create content here; and so I will continue to do so when time permits.
