Using Our InfoBarrel Articles Elsewhere

I have had a request from someone that runs another website to use one of my IB articles. What are the copyright rules? Can I give them permission or would I need to get the articel deleted from IB first (which could be a problem given what's been going on around here lately).

I believe that they could put a link on their page to yours.  But then again, not sure these days as have not written here for a while worst luck.  Good luck hope someone else can help you.

You cannot have your articles elsewhere if they are on IB. You would have to have them removed first.

OK. Thanks Mommyi. That could be a problem.

I did find in the Terms of Service that writers retain all rights to their own work....

Yes, writers do maintain the rights to their work, but you may not use the article anywhere else while it is still live on InfoBarrel. Once it is deleted, you can use it anywhere you want.

I just messaged Ryan on Facebook, so here's hoping .........

Yay. Ryan answered my FB message and has already deleted the article. I also mentioned that our earnings haven't been updated since December and the fact that the whole site is rife with spam!

Oy oy oy. It would be so nice if admin checked into the site rather than us running them down on social media.

Yes, I definitely agree with you there, Brown.

Is there a way for someone to request a visit from admin to the site? Tried reaching out but no one has responded to my request. If I could to send a private message via Twitter I would but he doesn't have that feature; he's quite active here. Big thanks to whom ever can make this happen.

Well, I did let Ryan know via Facebook that the spam was getting out of hand and that there didn't seem to have been an earnings update since December. He said he would talk to Kevin about this.

Let's hope the talking results in a visit to actually communicate with us.

Thank you Lesley!

Did anyone get an earnings update? I just checked my account and it looks like April was updated but I don't see anything from January - March.

ETA - I took another look and it appears that was for all the months...eeeks! It's dropped quite a bit since December

Yes, the earnings update looks like the combined income for the first quarter - extremely disappointing. And my clicks this month seem to have died off. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth publishing some more articles so I can keep the clicks coming. At this rate we'll all be 100 years old before we reach payout.

On the plus side, it looks as if Admin took the spam down.

Thanks for getting the spam knocked down.  That is better for everyone on the site.  I just reached payout this month, which was the first time in a long time.  I wonder if it will ever happen again?

Well done, DD. I think if I ever do reach payout I'll just take the money and run, although I'll probably be100 years old and quite incapable of running anywhere!

Hi,

I realize this is an old thread and that everyone ended up talking about spam, but my interest is in the original question: deleting our articles from IB in order to use them elsewhere. If we as writers truly retain the right to our content, why do we need IB's permission to use our articles elsewhere? Is it because we have a "gentlemen's agreement to publish exclusively on IB? Or does IB somehow 'brand' the articles so they are either unable to appear elsewhere, or they show up retaining IB's logo?

Thanks for any input on this.

It could simply be that if something is already published in IB it would be duplicate internet content and wouldn't pass a plagiarism test.
