Candlelight Vigil For Missing Admins
We gather together on this somber occasion to remember the glorious days of InfoBarrel when the Admins filled the site with their positive presence and inspirational leadership.
It is our deepest wish that we find closure and peace of mind as we deal with the void of never hearing from them anymore.
We hope for a positive outcome, some news, anything at all. Nothing is as bad as not knowing.
Perhaps this is a lesson on letting go. Maybe we will never hear from them again.
Good to hear from you, LPerry!
Sadly, it has been years since the admins have been here on a regular basis. I used to believe that IB was the last of the great writing sites, given the pre-approval process and the quality standards it developed over time. Now, IB is just an unloved site. I have said many times that a college intern who needed credits for a degree would be the perfect solution for site maintenance. The site would get the attention it needed and the student would get the experience s/he needed. Win-win!
While I totally understand moving on (I got a part-time job years ago to get away from the computer that was no longer bringing in the money I needed, plus I needed human contact!), ghosting is not cool. I still make regular sales here-nothing amazing or life changing-but it is possible to earn. I sink what little time I have into my own sites. This site can still be viable, but I would not put new content on here unless I saw administrative presence. I have ideas for articles that do not fit my niche or anywhere else. So they remain unwritten.
Wishing all my fellow IBer's a happy and healthy New Year ahead!
I agree with both LPerry and mommyx3.. It is a sad time.
But I wish all my fellow IB'ers... especially the "old timers" a wonderful New Year filled with hope, laughter and prosperity!!
Oh yes, a very Happy New Year to everyone ! And even though this coming April will mark 2 years since we heard from the Captain/ Captains of this ship, a Happy New Year for him/ them too.
[ insert party hats and confetti here ]
I agree with all of you. It is sad to see the Admins are missing. Should we put out a Missing Persons report? I love the mock candlelight vigil idea. I actually received a payment of $50+ here this year, despite not adding anything new in quite some time. At my current earnings rate, it will be years, if ever, before I get another payment, but I just do not have the heart to keep trying to add articles.
I'm glad to see a few old friends are still hanging around, however!
Happy New Year to you all! Perhaps 2019 will bring something new!
I just added a fairly light article that didn't take too much effort just to see what would happen. So far all the tracking stats are showing zero. The last time the admins updated the pay (after I whined to them about something) I got an exactly round dollar amount which might have been quite arbitrary. I am wondering if anything is actually being tracked at all. I am over $20 away from payout and 70 years old so, like you Deb, I probably won't make payout for a long time, perhaps even not in my lifetime.
I am wondering if I could ask them for the amount I have accrued and then close my account.
The initial post is funny in a bittersweet way.
I do remember when this site was vibrant.
The "upgrade" killed it.
Makes me sad, really.
Best to all of you!
Stats haven't been updated in (at least) two months and earnings haven't been credited in about two years.
Does Canada have class-action suits? If yes, why don't those of us being cheated out of our earnings because of the admins' neglect file one? if nothing else, they'd be punished for their misfeasance.
Happy New Year everyone!
I did what HLesley did and added a couple of articles recently just to see if certain features were still working. My only concern now is I have issued a request to delete some of my articles several times and no response.
I would be happy to volunteer some time to keep this site going if they need the help. Obviously if some of the writers are still receiving views or even getting payouts like Deborah-Diane said then it must be worth it to maintain the site. I can proofread articles, monitor spam in the forums, respond to requests, that kind of administrative stuff.
Yes, I would also be willing to volunteer some time, if only to do earnings updates ...
Sorry missed all that but hope u old timers had a great xmas and new year. Yes i miss the interaction wigh all of you i come and have a look every now and then. I am so close yo payout but dont think will ever make it. $48.+ just not enough. Eileen cheers everyone
I ocassionally go back to finish IB drafts in progress. I am hoping that if I can keep those pennies flooding in I might eventually make payout!
For those of you who offered to volunteer some time to help keep the site updated, you could possibly contact someone through their Facebook page. I sent a message through their Facebook page once, and either Kevin or Ryan answered (I can't remember which). I would not bug them, but they did answer a quick question I had. Maybe a couple of volunteers would be enough to get things moving again.
Thanks to those of you who are willing to do that ... @dadbintheadmin and @HLesley
In the past I have got answers from Ryan, but not from Kevin.
I never hear from Kevin. Ryan does respond to Facebook messages.
Really shouldn't have to track down admins through their social pages but what can you do? Not sure how long it took to get my articles down but their were eventually removed. Sad to see this site in the direction it's heading and quite surprised it's still up; they have to be doing something (hopefully).
Nice to see the community sending out positive vibes. Would be nice to hear from admin or anyone at this point about the status of the site.
Well, IB is holding on to money that we have earned. At the moment I am about $20 away from payout and don't expect to reach it in my lifetime. The right thing to do would be to close the site and give us the money they owe us.
I was paid last month as I was over the threshold. I did have to ask for it, but I was paid.
Good to know.
