Good Anime Shows for Teen Girls

By Edited Nov 15, 2013 2 2

The anime world isn't just for young boys and perverts as the world suspects. There is quite a few fine options when it comes to finding an anime for a teenage girl. Not all anime is filled with scantily clad women and obscene violence and bloodshed. They do not all have to be about sappy romance either. If you find yourself shopping for the little anime princess in your life, try some of these options.

fullmetal alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist

This is one of those animes that can be good for teenage boys and teenage girls. It has fast-paced action but can be a bit dark and has a few bloody bits at some points. However, there is no nudity unless you count Armstrong's rippling upper body muscles ripping off his own shirt. Fullmetal Alchemist has an original and inventive storyline and is filled with good clean comedy.

The story follows the alchemist brothers Alphonse and Edward Elric on their quest for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, which is a catalyst for the alchemy they practice. The two brothers are under the employment of the government and earned their license to practice alchemy when they attempted to bring back their dead mother at the tender ages of 10 and 11. Using alchemy to create or modify a human being is a forbidden practice because of its horrific side effects. Trying to being back their mother caused Alphonse to lose his human body and Edward sacrificed his arm to attach his brothers soul to a suit of armor. With Alphonse in his new metal body and Edward with a finely crafted mechanical arm, they search for the Philosopher's stone to return Alphonse to his body and uncover a government plot most foul.

kimi ni todoke

Kimi Ni Todoke

Kimi Ni Todoke is part slice of life (meaning it documents an ordinary school life) and part romance. It is sweet and inspiring. It takes an extremely realistic approach to romance and relationships from the point of view of a shy girl. So if your teen happens to be a little shy, she may find this anime extremely inspiring. The romance in Kimi Ni Todoke is extremely slow moving and there is no adult content to be found.

Kimi Ni Todoke follows Sawako Kuronuma, called Sadako by her classmates for her resemblance to the character from The Ring, has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance. There are rumors that Sawako can see ghosts and curse people. However, despite her appearances, she is a sweet and timid girl who longs to be able to make friends with everyone and be liked by everyone else. When her idol, popular boy Kazehaya, begins talking with her, everything changes. She finds herself in a new world, trying to make friends and talking to different people and she can't thank Kazehaya enough for giving her these opportunities. vampire knight

Vampire Knight

This anime is extremely popular among teenage girls. Perhaps it is the Twilight fad that made a niche for this similarly themed vampire anime, or the dark romantic love triangle and subversive plots. This is a vampire anime, so blood it to be expected. There is little violence and no nudity.

Yuki's earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter, where she was attacked by a vampire and then rescued by another. Now 10 years later, Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross, has grown up and become a guardian of the vampire race, protecting her childhood crush, Kaname, from discovery as he leads a group of vampires at the elite boarding school. But also at her side is Zero Kiryu, a childhood friend whose hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear leaves him determined never to trust them. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions?

kare kano

His & Her Circumstances

His and her Circumstances is a sweet little romantic comedy that follows two overachievers, well one overachiever and one pretender, through their life in and outside of school. It is sweet and funny, though the manga follows them from high school to marriage and children, but the anime only goes up to the end of high school.

Yukino Miyazawa thrives on the praise of others. She fulfills this narcissistic need by being the model student at school. However, at home she is a complete slob who studies and exercises obsessively to be the best at school. The handsome Soichiro Arima threatens her lifeline of praise at school by getting better grades and then finding out she is not the perfect student she seems like.

At first, Arima blackmails her with the discovery, but as they spend more time together a deep friendship and later a relationship forms between them.

naruto

Naruto

This is a classic boys anime, but that does not mean a girl can't enjoy it too. There is lots of action an violence, but also romance and ever-tested bonds of friendship. There are a variety of characters in this series that anyone can identify and bond with. There is a fair bit of sexual humor, but it is pretty censored in the English version.

Naruto is the pariah of his ninja village. He aims to be Hokage, or leader, of his ninja village someday, but his chances look bleak due to his lack of talent and popularity. Naruto soon learns people avoid him because he has the fearsome Nine-Tailed Fox demon sealed in his body. Naruto soon graduates basic ninja school and is placed in a team with his eternal rival Sasuke Uchiha and his love interest Sakura Haruno. They go on missions where ninja are needed, but as Naruto becomes more powerful, the world becomes more turbulent. Friends betray friends, brothers turn against brothers, and the world is threatened by a variety of evil villains.

Naruto is an ongoing epic that is sure to continue running for years to come.

Wow, really took me back to the old days with a couple of these (namely FMA, Naruto, and Fruits Basket). Totally agree these are all great for teens in general, especially girls. Fruits Basket is probably one of the best drama/romance anime that I watched in my teen years, and is right up any girl that age's alley for sure. Thumbs up!

I love all of these! I personally like watching and reading shounen over shoujo and I would encourage any girl to do the same.
