iPhone 4G Verizon Wireless
-by Chris Alta
The silence has finally been broken. The iPhone 4G for Verizon Wireless is hitting stores and will be sold to the public on 2/10/11. When AT&T first launched the iPhone on July 27th, 2007 the consumers went crazy for it - and AT&T wasn't ready for the high demand. Verizon Wireless however is not worried, as they are "more than ready" according to CBSNEWS.
When talks first began about 2 years ago that Verizon was going to get the iPhone, it seemed it was going to happen in an instant. Little did we know we'd have to wait another 2 years for it to finally happen. It seemed that every 3 months the media would put this idea in our heads that it was "right around the corner" or "it's coming out this summer." Now that it's here the public can't wait to get their hands on one, with Verizon Wireless service that is.
What does this mean for AT&T's business? Since AT&T no longer holds exclusive rights to the iPhone as it's carrier? Will Verizon push the competition bar up a few floors? Personally I think it was bound to happen this way. With all of the now AT&T users fed up with the dropped calls and sluggish data speeds, millions of consumers will want to make the switch to Verizon Wireless - but there's a catch. The catch is that the iPhone 4G Verizon Wireless is not actually going to be running on 4G speed. Verizon Wireless' network is actually incapable (for the mean time) of providing 4G speeds so the iPhone "4G" will be relying on the service of CDMA (Code-Division Multiple Access), which means it's about the same speed as your basic 3G speed right now.
Reasons Consumers Will Switch To Verizon
Pricing - Verizon will match if not lower their overall packages.
Service - AT&T has developed a reputation of dropped calls and sluggish data speeds over the years.
Reaons Consumers Will Stay With AT&T
Service - You can't browse the internet and talk on the phone at the same time. Verizon doesn't have these capabilities.
Economy - The way the economy is, people can't afford to cancel out a contract and then go sign up for another.
Data Roaming - AT&T offers data roaming with your iPhone 4 while Verizon Wireless doesn't. This means if you romaed out of your area with a Verizon Wireless iPhone 4G, your bill wouldn't be nice come the end of the month.
The new iPhone 4G Verizon Wireless model will allow consumers a new feature referred to as "Hot Spot Tethering." What this enables the consumer to do is pick up any open wifi signal from any laptop or mobil device that's within the area.
