Braava or Roomba Comparison Review: Braava 380t Vs Roomba 770

This contrasting account - iRobot Braava Vs Roomba -- is basically to help you to decide which out of the two you really need and why (if not both), along with a break down analysis of specifications and features (between a robotic mopper/sweeper --braava and robotic vacuum -- roomba), so you get a clear overview as to what each can offer you as well as which offers you the best value for money.

Intended Cleaning Jobs

Braava: is meant as a mopping/sweeping robot for all hard-floors -- removing dirt, stains, debris and pet hair from laminate, tiled, wooden flooring.

Roomba: operates essentially as a robotic vacuum cleaner, so it will forcefully suck up dust, dirt and debris from all floor types (from hardwood to medium pile carpets).

Note: for the sake of clarity, I have chosen the popular Roomba 770 and Braava 380t models  to help with the comparison -- just know that not all the differences mentioned (particularly specifications) carry on through with the other Roomba & Braava range (it is worth inspecting them specifically).

Cleaning System - Vacuum Vs Mopping

Roomba (770): 3 Stage Cleaning with AeroVac Series 2 | Dual Hepa Filters

Braava (380t): Dry Sweep - 1,000 Sq ft. | Mopping Coverage - 350 Sq. ft. |

The Roomba cleaning system, sophisticated counter-rotating brush mechanism & new advanced cleaner head (basically all integrated together act as a powered "dust pan and broom") can remove up to 98% of "dust, dirt and pet hair" by its seldom on all floor types. It is also installed with Dual HEPA filters to prevent any dust, allergens etc. from being expelled into the air, so is safe to be used with those with any breathing problems (asthma etc.).

The Braava in turn operates on two modes: i) sweeping -- which basically acts to sweep away dust, dirt and pet hair from just hard based flooring (which includes wooden, laminate, tiling etc.) as well as with the ii) mop mode that removes 98% of household bacteria & particularly tough dirt satins etc. - with its specially designed reservoir microfiber cloths.

Navigation System

Roomba (770): iAdapt Responsive Cleaning Technology | Remote

Braava (380t):  NorthStar Navigation System (2)

They both utilise a sat nav type operation system for them to methodically to clean around a floor surface area -- to provide an optimal and effective cleaning finish. This being said, the Roomba is somewhat more advanced in this department given that it continually updates to map the room so can detect potential obstacles and drop-off points. Both models use a cube navigation type point for continuous room to room cleaning.

Cleaning System

Roomba (770): Round | Dirt Detect Series 2 w. Persistent Pass | Scheduling

Braava (380t): Square | Pro Clean System

The Roomba has a specialised feature optical feature to detect particularly dirty areas on flooring, so like you would with a vacuum cleaner go over it repeatedly, the Roomba will run over it repeatedly until its clean (i.e persistent pass). Roombas also let you schedule it 7 days out of the week so you can get it top operate in and around your home even when you are at work.

With the Braava (somwhat in contrast to the Roomba) it has a pro clean system this ensures the microfiber reservoir cloth is always damp, as it is frequently moisturized with the special cleaning solution -- this in turn ensures  for a quality clean.

Battery Life

Roomba (770): 3 Hrs with Auto Recharge (3 Hrs)

Braava (380t): Dry Mop: 4 hrs | Wet Mop: 2.5 hrs |

Both models are installed with an advanced & reconfigured battery that allows them to i) last much longer than the older gen robot vacuums and ii) be charged up much quicker. The Roomba is particularly unique in that if its starts a job and detects that it will run out of charge before finishing -- it will stop mid way and return to its dock charging station until fully charged again, then carry on where it left off with the original cleaning job in hand.

Further Information

The Braava is covered on a 1 year warranty program for both components and the battery, the Roomba however is backed for just 6 months on the battery but the full 12 months for its parts (i.e the actual vacuum).

Conclusion - Final Summary Comparison - Roomba Vs Braava

Clearly, they are intended for different cleaning jobs, so choosing between them is basically a question of 'what type of flooring is most frequent in your house -- do you have more carpets or hard floors?'. If it is the former you will get more value out of the Roomba and if it is the latter, then likewise with the Braava -- if its somewhat even then get the Roomba given it operates on all floor types (or perhaps both, particularly if its a large house).

Which will you buy the roomba or braava (or perhaps both) and why?

Also, if you have ANY questions, comments or concerns regarding either the comparison review of the iRobot Roomba Vs Braava or about either 'range' specifically (and any specific model in their ranges e.g. the Braaava 380t or Roomba 770) then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section, that you will find just below the fold, and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
