Difference Between the Roomba 760 & 770

This is a common issue. Many potential buyers of a new iRobot Roomba don't know whether they should either go with the Roomba '760' or' the '770' as they are unknowing as to which model is best suited to them. If you have this problem -- you are in the right place. Below, is a comparison Roomba 760 Vs 770 account & table that highlights both their differences as well as their similarities amongst specifications & features -- ultimately determining which model offers you the best overall value (respective to its price tag).

Cleaning Mechanism

Roomba 760: '3 Stage Cleaning with AeroVac Series 2' | Adjusting Clean | CleanEdge |

Roomba 770: '3 Stage Cleaning with AeroVac Series 2' | Adjsuting Clean | Clean Edge |

Both models are fitted with the same (3 Stage AeroVac) cleaning system & advanced cleaner head (which self-adjusts depending on the type of floor being cleaned) that allows them to carry out a very impressive cleaned finish on all floor types (although they do tend to struggle a bit on high pile carpets) and are more than capable of dealing with pet hair.

They are also installed with a 'cleaner edge' brush -- so they clean right along skirting (wall edges) and have been designed to approach walls/obstacles with caution (i.e they slow down) as to collide into them (however if they do hit them -- they have a polymer bumper to prevent damage to both the skirting/furniture/wall & the Roomba itself).

Roomba 760: iAdapt Responsive Cleaning Technology

Roomba 770: iAdapt Responsive Cleaning Technology

They both utilise a GPS type system that maps out the layout of the floor that needs to be cleaned as well as being able to identify the 'hard to reach' areas (e.g. under your sofa/couch) so it can clean with caution.

Moreover, it has the capability to avoid obstacles & drop offs (e.g. chair legs & stair ways) too and if it gets caught up in wires, it has a unique 'shake off' technology that it uses to set itself free (although before setting it on its way to do some cleaning, which you can simply do by pressing the 'clean' button -- it is best to make it a wire & obstacle free zone, making its life a little easier & so it can get the job done faster). You are also provided with 2 auto-virtual walls, so you can keep it within a restricted area -- for instance they can be used over doorways & frames etc.

Fitted Technology

Roomba 760: Dirt Detect with Persistent Cleaning

Roomba 770: Dirt Detect with Persistent Cleaning (Series 2)

A real highlight of the Roomba vacuums is their 'intelligent' repeated cleaning -- where when they come across particularly dirty areas (which they detect through an acoustic system), they carry put a persistent clean (i.e go over the same area over & over again - back & forth) like you would with a standard vacuum. However, the 770 'does it' better with the more advanced level of such detection (i.e the series 2, which utilizes an optical system as well as the acoustic set up) -- being able to gauge how much dirtier a particular area is, rather than it just being dirtier.

Battery Life & Charging

Roomba 760: Run time - 60 mins before returning to the dock.

Roomba 770: Run time - 70 mins before returning to the dock.

Although such recordings aren't official, they are well known to have a rather extensive run time of approximately just over an hour (with the 770 a bit longer -- both being far longer than previous generations - 50% with anecdotal evidence) before they return to their docking station where it takes 3 hrs to charge up again before set off again to finish the job (saving you the hassle of getting them recharged over & over). Pretty impressive.

Filtration System

Roomba 760: Dual HEPA Filter

Roomba 770: Dual HEPA Filter

They are both constructed with a dual HEPA filter system that basically captures dust & allergen particles from being expelled into the air (as small as 0.3 microns), leaving behind cleaner & healthier air -- particularly good for asthmatics & allergy sufferers.

Practical Features & Specifications

Roomba 760: Remote Control | Dimensions: Height 8.0 cm x Diameter 35 cm | Weight: 6.1 kgs | Bin Capacity: 0.26 litres

Roomba 770: Remote Control | Bin Indicator |Dimensions: Height 8.0 cm x Diameter 35 cm | Weight: 6.3 kgs | Bin Capacity: 0.26 litres

Both can be operated via remote, saving you the trouble of even having to get up from your chair and alter with the touch controls & settings etc. Moreover, you also have the ability to set a schedule for the Roomba -- 7 days a week -- so it can work even when you aren't at the home (which is pretty cool). A frequently asked question - is the noise level produced - although they aren't silent, they certainly aren't that loud either -- a similar level dB range as an average talk in a restaurant.

They also have a pretty extensive bin capacity too now (when compared with previous models) -- and specifically with the Roomba 770, it also comes with a bin indicator to let you know when it needs emptying, saving you the trouble of constantly second guessing it.

If you want even more features (e.g. a touch pad control system) on your Roomba go ahead and check the Roomba 770 Vs 780.

Further Information

They are both backed by a twelve month limited warranty for the entire robot & a six month guarantee covering the battery.

Should You Buy the Roomba 760 or 770?

Although, both cleaning robots are pretty similar -- you can see that the 770 edges it in a few aspects -- but which one you get I think ultimately depends on the difference in price between the two. The 770 is the more expensive model by around $50 -- and to me all the extra benefits that you get (e.g. the bin indicator, better technology etc.) is definitely worth it. But, ultimately it is down to your own preference. One thing is for sure and  that is they are both great robot vacuums & you won't be disappointed with either.

Let me know which one you choose to buy and why? Also, if you have any questions, comments, concerns regarding either the comparison article 'Roomba 760 Vs 770' or about either model specifically (e.g. more details the Roomba 770 mechanical features etc.) please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section that you will find just below and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
