I Need Help With My Mortgage Payments

By Edited Oct 13, 2015 0 0

If you ever catch yourself saying, "I need help with my mortgage payments," you may be in luck, but you'll have to act quickly before it is too late. There are several options out there that can help you keep your home. Being in a situation where you might have to foreclose your home is scary, and can be devastating for the entire family. Before you start to even look for help elsewhere, figure out if there is anything you can do to get your hands on extra cash. Can you borrow money from relatives or friends? Do you have any savings in your bank account? Remember that time is your enemy, and the more you stall, the more likely that your house will be foreclosed. Keep in mind that if you are losing money because of a failing business, you need to figure out a way to stop money from draining out of your bank account. If you can, try to sell the business or liquidate its assets as quickly as possible. A lot of people who have trouble paying back mortgages fail to act quickly to solve the problem. A lot of times, they think that things will get better. Often times, this is not the case. Below, I will give you some tips on how you can take control of your mortgage payments.

Government Assistance for Homeowners Headed into Foreclosure

If you are struggling to make ends meet, let alone, paying for your mortgages, the government may be able to help you out. Government assistance comes in many forms and there are a lot of factors that determine whether or not you qualify. If you are a minority, single-mother, veteran or disabled, there will be a lot more options for you. If you've recently lost a job or taken a deep cut in your salary, you may also be qualified for food stamps. Although these will not help you directly, they can help you direct your money towards paying off your mortgage.

Foreclosure Prevention Help

In addition to asking the government for help, there are also other places that help with mortgage payments. Here is a list of places where you can start.

Save a Home Program is an online site that helps homeowners with mortgage payments. The way they help is by restructuring mortgage payments by lowering the interest rate. All you need to do is fill out an application form and you will directed to a page that lists all the qualified assistance programs in your local area.

Churches: If you are religious and attend church every Sunday, you may be able to get assistance. There are a lot of churches that help people with their bills and utilities. They even provide food for those who are too poor to purchase a hot meal. Keep in mind that they will be more likely to help you out if you've been a loyal member for several years.

Bills Dot Com: is another great resource to help you pay off those pesky loans. If you are unable to refinance your mortgage payments due to poor credit, Bills Dot Com will be able to help you out.

The Salvation Army: Founded in 1865, the Salvation Army has worked in over 120 countries helping the less fortunate. In addition to helping you with your mortgage, the Salvation Army runs thrift stores where you will be able to purchase clothes and other items for a cheap price.

Mortgage and Refinancing

One of the best ways to start figuring out how to pay your mortgage is by refinancing it. By refinancing your mortgage, you will be able to get a lower interest rate, effectively reducing your monthly payment. You can also reduce the overall payment amount by opting for longer term to pay it all off. Lastly, you can switch from a variable rate to a fixed rate in order to minimize risk. Keep in mind that most of these changes can only be done if you have good credit. It may be more difficult or impossible if you have terrible credit.

If you follow the tips outlined above, you will no longer need to say, "I need help with my mortgage payments."
