        History of Lakai Footwear

Lakai Footwear is a skateboard shoe and sneaker company that was founded in 1999 in Torrance, California by Girl Skateboards co-founders and professional skateboarders themselves, Mike Carroll and Rick Howard. Lakai Footwear specializes in quality skateboard shoes and sneakers, and nowadays Lakai also has a line of apparel. Lakai Footwear is part of the Girl Skateboards Distribution Family that includes several popular skateboard brands like Girl Skateboards, Chocolate Skateboards, Skate Mental Skateboards, Royal Skateboard Trucks, Ruby Clothing, and FourStar Clothing Co.

Lakai Footwear derives its name, Lakai, from a reference to pro skateboarder and Lakai Footwear co-founder Mike Carroll's favorite character in the movie "Children of the Corn", Malakai. Lakai Footwear was created after Mike Carroll and Rick Howard left the DC Shoes team and decided to create their own skateboard shoe company. Since 1999, Lakai Footwear has introduced a wide variety of skateboard shoes and Lakai brand sneakers. Lakai is no longer limited to footwear as their name implies. In fact, Lakai also features several other types of skateboarding apparel.
