Citizens pay taxes to fund federal, state and local programs. The tax revenues are used to build schools, pay government employee wages and to fund Social Security. Tax monies pay for welfare and other entitlement programs.
Many people in the US do not want a lot of the programs paid for by the taxes. Others are unhappy with current programs due to waste. An example of this is the public school systems. Over regulations have made the system cumbersome and costly.
In some states, teacher unions have mandated higher costs of operation.
Welfare entitlements increase as unemployment rates go down due to people living in worse economic conditions. People who are left working are mandated by tax laws to pay more services for the unemployed.
