You have probably heard of the health benefits of coconut oil by now and how great it is for your insides, but there are also other uses that have just as many benefits such as putting coconut oil in hair, or on skin or for a load of uses that have seen many benefits, but check out the dental benefits!

Coconut oil pulling is something you can add to your normal daily dental routine, and you make think it is new, but in fact many other countries have been using this for ions.  It is quite often used as a mouthwash and with its natural antibacterial properties and no harsh chemicals has been quite successful.

But lately it has been touted as a way to whiten teeth.  Whether this works on the whitening side of things or not, it is worth a try as it is a all natural product.  NOTE:  Make sure to get the all natural organic coconut oil for the best benefits and give the “oil pulling for teeth” a trial and see what results you get.

How to Do Oil Pulling

If you have never purchased it before, it is not in a liquid state in its natural condition, it will almost look like whitish paste in a jar, but it does smell divine!

Step 1 – Do this in the morning if you can before you brush your teeth.  Using a tablespoon, scoop out some and let it sit on your tongue.  It melts super fast; just don’t swallow it for this pulling procedure!coconut oil pulling teeth

Step 2 – Swish and more swish pulling it back and forth through your teeth!  Walk around the house do something else and swish for as long as you can.  15-20 minutes is the norm but go as long as you can.  In the beginning it can take some getting used to, so even 5 minutes is worth it.  If you are doing this before work, do other things while you are swishing to get ready this way you are more likely to do this as part of your daily routine.

Step 3 – Spit it out into the garbage can, NOT the sink as this oil can solidify when it hits the cold water in your drain and then block the plumbing.  You don’t want to be trying to upgrade your oral hygiene at the cost of your plumbing.

Step 4 – Rinse your mouth with tepid water, and then go about your normal brushing and flossing

What are the Benefits of Oil Pulling?

A good way to start this process is to take a “selfie” in good lighting of your teeth, then try to do this procedure at least 2-3 times a week for at least 10 minutes for 3 weeks and see if you notice a difference in the whiteness of your teeth.

It has also been Noted For:

Helping with tooth decay, freshening your breath, reduce gum inflammation, help with dry lips and the list goes on.

This should NOT replace your normal dental hygiene, but be in addition to it.  If you have found regular mouth washes to be too harsh or not really work, you have nothing to lose by trying coconut oil for fresh breath as it is a natural antibacterial product as long as you purchase the organic coconut oil.

Make a New Routine Easy to Start

That being said, you may want to purchase a bottle for the kitchen and one for the bathroom so you have it on hand.  In order to change or add to a beauty or health routine you need to make things easy, especially in the morning if you want to try the coconut oil pulling for your teeth.  Have the jar there and a clean spoon ready to go in your bathroom or bedroom or whatever room you use first in the morning.

Just remember, DON’T spit it out in the sink or you will create other problems, either the garbage or the toilet would be best as the drain is larger.

If you just can’t stomach the idea of this swishing every morning, start with just the weekends and then add a day in the week until you are doing about 2-3 days a week or more.  Even daily for just 5 minutes should make a difference in your teeth.

Take that Before Selfie and After

Take a picture of your teeth now, and then in a few weeks, it may surprise you just how well it works instead of those harsh whitening chemicals on the market that can strip the enamel or those harsh mouth washes that I find really strong first thing in the morning and burn my tongue!  Plus the added bonus of sweeter breath and less inflammation of your gums, your dentist may ask what you have been doing!

It is nice to find a product that can do so many things!
